What sets us apart? In a word, Experience. Areté is co-led by two accomplished academics with decades of hands-on experience in higher education and public and private K-12 settings.

A Unique Approach to Student Development: Areté is unique because we start with the premise that each adolescent is responsible for creating a pathway toward a healthy and fulfilling life. At the same time, we know they need scaffolding (lack the experience) and resources to design a road map that works for their complex lives.

Guidance in Academic Decision-Making: Recognizing the importance of choosing sound academic options (courses, entrance exams, and college selection), we help identify various outcomes and put them in a position to make the best choice.

Building Resilience for Lifelong Success: On par with an excellent education is a belief that they will face challenges and experience setbacks. We take actionable, intentional steps necessary to optimize outcomes and predict difficulties. Practicing resilience solidifies them for the next several mountains they will climb.

Expert Support Through and To Success: We are experts in educational transitions, assisting students as they prepare for their academic milestones. Most students experience difficult transitions in academic, social, and emotional realms. Areté provides accurate and timely information about the similarities and differences between middle and high school and high school and college. We stay with your child as they make sense of the different expectations and ensure that they can talk through the strategies needed to make smooth transitions.

Our work is intense and selective. We work with 10 or fewer families at a time. Your child will only see one of two founders for weekly sessions. As parents, we know that spending quality time with our families is paramount. Areté reduces unnecessary stress and tension associated with homework and schooling in general. We want the time that you have together to be family time.
